How To Install Choqok 1.5 On Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 12.04 And Derivative Systems

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Choqok an open source instant messaging client for Linux, having out of the good Twitter support. Being a KDE application, it is build with the Qt libraries.

It allows the users to easily use multiple accounts simultaneously, quick reply, send and receive messages, automatic shortening support of URLs, and many other userful things.

The latest version available is Choqok 1.5, that comes with the below changes:

  • There’s a new option to disable the system tray.
  • As mentioned above, we now have a plugin for Pump.io microblogs.
  • We have a new plugin for expansion of short URLs, and dropped old UnTiny plugin. **
  • A preview for photos posted to Twitter.com is now available.
  • Issues in updating friends list of Twitter is fixed and sending direct message is working again.
  • There’s a new option in User menu for Reporting a User to Twitter.
  • A long wanted request on StatusNet(Gnu social) plugin was ability to take into account the server’s custom set, char limit. now we have it.
  • IMStatus plugin now supports KDE Telepathy.
  • Yourls and Goo.gl shortening plugins are fixed and now they are working again.
  • Broken shortening plugins are dropped.

In this article I will show you how to install Choqok 1.5 on Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet, Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Pinguy OS 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Elementary OS 0.2 Luna, Deepin 2014, Peppermint Five, LXLE 14.04, Linux Lite 2 and other Ubuntu derivative systems.

Because it is available via PPA, installing Choqok 1.5 on Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 12.04 and derivative systems is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the choqok package. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:adilson/experimental
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install choqok

Optional, to remove choqok, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove choqok
