How to Install Cinnamon 1.8 on Ubuntu 13.04 / 12.10 / 12.04

Hello Linux Geeksters.

In this article I will show you how to install Cinnamon 1.8 on Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal and Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin.

As you know, Cinnamon is a popular Gnome 2 Fork, created by the Linux Mint team.

Because it is available in the default repos for Ubuntu 13.04, all you have to do is:

$ sudo apt-get install cinnamon

To install cinnamon on Ubuntu 12.10 and Ubuntu 12.04, do this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-stable
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install cinnamon

This is it. Enjoy.

    Slight correction… Cinnamon a fork of Gnome Shell (Gnome 3) that is designed to provide a more traditional desktop like that of Gnome 2.

    Thank you much. Forgot how easy that was.

    My laptop was replaced and I was once again dealing with Gnome3 issues (and avoiding Unity as a Facebook user friendly but developer hostile desktop) on 12.04.

    Maybe I’ve just been spoiled after using Cinnamon for over a year.
