How To Install DigiKam 4.3.0 On Kubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr And Linux Mint 17 Qiana KDE

Hello Linux Geeksters. DigiKam is a photo management application, designed for importing, organizing and exporting digital photos to your computer. It has a simple and fast interface. It also has a quick Image Editor,and allows you to comment, rate, correct or alter photos.

The latest version available is DigiKam 4.3, which has been recently released, coming with the below changes:

  • New option to display all non geo-located images from collections.
  • New notification event when kio-slave cannot be started. OSX event notifier is now used to dispatch notifications under Mac.
  • New action to exclude items without rating with items filter.

how to install DigiKam 4.3.0 on Kubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17 KDE

In this article I will show you how to install DigiKam 4.3.0 on Kubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17 KDE and other Ubuntu 14.04 derivative systems using KDE as the default desktop environment.

DigiKam 4.3.0 can be also installed on non-KDE Ubuntu 14.04 derivatives like Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Peppermint Five, Deepin 2014, Linux Lite 2.0, Deepin 2014, LXLE 14.04, Pinguy OS 14.04 via the ppa:philip5/extra PPA, but will install a lot of KDE libraries, so it is not recommended.

DigiKam 4.3.0 is available in two different PPAs, one for systems using KDE 4.14 and one for systems with KDE 4.13 (the default DE of Kubuntu 14.04 and Linux Mint 17 KDE).

So, follow the instructions for your system and desktop environment exactly, in order to get a successful installation.

How to install DigiKam 4.3.0 on Kubuntu 14.04 and Linux Mint 17 KDE systems, using KDE 4.13 and non KDE Ubuntu 14.04 derivatives:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:philip5/extra
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install digikam

How to install DigiKam 4.3.0 on Kubuntu 14.04 and Linux Mint 17 KDE systems, using KDE 4.14:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:philip5/kubuntu-backports
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install digikam

Optional, to remove DigiKam 4.3.0 from either Kubuntu 14.04 and Linux Mint 17 KDE, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove digikam
