In this article I will show you how to install DraftSight V1R5.1 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Pinguy OS 14.04 and Elementary OS 0.3 Isis.

Because it is not available via any PPA or repository, we have to download the draftsight package from the official site and install it via command-line. Due to the fact that the draftsight deb package is for 32 bit systems, the installation is a little trickier on 64 bit systems, because a bunch of 32 bit libraries have to be installed.

Follow the instructions for your system’s architecture exactly, in order to get a successful installation.

How to install DraftSight V1R5.1 on 32 bit Ubuntu 14.04, Linux Mint 17, Pinguy OS 14.04 and Elementary OS 0.3 systems:

$ sudo apt-get install gdebi
$ wget www.draftsight.com/download-linux-ubuntu -O draftSight.deb
$ sudo gdebi draftSight.deb

Optional, to remove draftsight, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove draftsight

How to install DraftSight V1R5.1 on 64 bit Ubuntu 14.04, Linux Mint 17, Pinguy OS 14.04 and Elementary OS 0.3 systems:

$ sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
$ sudo apt-get install libuuid1:i386 libice6:i386 libsm6:i386 libxt6:i386 libaudio2:i386 libgtk2.0-0:i386 libcanberra-gtk-module:i386 libcanberra-gtk0:i386 libglu1-mesa:i386
$ sudo apt-get install gdebi
$ wget www.draftsight.com/download-linux-ubuntu -O draftSight.deb
$ sudo gdebi draftSight.deb

Optional, to remove draftsight, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove draftsight

Note: If DraftSight does not use the default Ubuntu 14.04 theme, do the following:

$ echo 'gtk-theme-name="Ambiance" >> ~/.gtkrc-2.0
$ echo 'export GTK2_RC_FILES="$HOME/.gtkrc-2.0"' >> ~/.profile
$ sudo apt-get install gtk2-engines-murrine:i386
