How To Install Elementary Icon Theme 3.2 On Ubuntu 14.04, Linux Mint 17

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Elementary OS is a famost Ubuntu fork, using only the LTS versions of the system as code base and having an astonishing GUI.

Elementary Icons 3.2 is the under-development icon theme for Elementary OS 0.3 (not released yet) and got GTK+3 improvements, new emoticons, some new monochrome icons for the panel support, available in two versions, light and dark.

In this article I will show you how to install Elementary Icon Theme 3.2 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Pinguy OS 14.04, LXLE 14.04 and other Ubuntu 14.04 derivative systems.

Because it is available via the Elementary OS Daily PPA, installing Elementary Icon Theme 3.2 on Ubuntu 14.04 and derivative systems is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the elementary-icon-theme package. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:elementary-os/daily
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install elementary-icon-theme

After you have successfully installed the icon pack, use the Ubuntu Tweak Tool (or something similar) to set it as default.

Optional, to remove elementary-icon-theme, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove elementary-icon-theme
