How to Install Enlightenment 17 (E17) on Ubuntu 13.04

Hello Linux Geeksters.

In this article I will show you how to install Enlightenment 17 (E17) on Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail.

E17 is an advanced window manager for X11.

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hannes-janetzek/enlightenment-svn
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install e17

    I bit the bullet and moved to Ubuntu 13.04 because Bodhi Linux, based on LTS releases, didn’t have a recent ghc in its repositories… and I’m disappointed.

    The ppa repository doesn’t include Enlightenment themes, and while programs that require superuser permission appear in the menu, if you click on, say, synaptic, you’re not prompted for password to sudo it… instead you get “you’re running synaptic without superuser permissions” which means that you can’t do what you almost certainly wanted to run synaptic for in the first place, i.e. install or remove packages.
