How to Install Firefox 20 in Ubuntu 13.04, Ubuntu 12.10, Ubuntu 12.04, Linux Mint 14 and Linux Mint 13 by PPA

In this article I will show you how to install the latest (stable) Firefox, Firefox 20, on your Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 14 Nadia and Linux Mint 13 Maya.

Installing Firefox 20 on Ubuntu and Linux Mint is quite easy. All you have to do is:

Add the Firefox repo:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-security/ppa

Update the system:

$ sudo apt-get update

Install Firefox:

$ sudo apt-get install firefox

This is it. Happy Firefox Browsing.

The latest Mozilla Firefox version is Firefox 21, but it is unstable. If you want to test it, do this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-next
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install firefox

    This is the beta channel that you are asking folks to add. I checked out the PPA and it will install 21, not 20…

    FF 20 is also in that ppa but it was last built 27 May which is BEFORE the official release of FF 20 (2 Apr), so it is likely a pre-release version. Not that there will be much or any difference between them, but still. The FF Aurora PPA has been freshly updated today (4 Apr) with FF 22, if anyone wants to give that a spin.

    Yeah, to add the stable channel, do:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-security/ppa

    you say this blog is to help beginners.yet you start “how to install firefox” by stating a number of commands to run.
    how? where?
    this is great for people who already know linux,but not helpful for real beginners.

  6. LinuxER says:

    @chunky: the commands for installing firefox 21 beta are the same as the ones for installing firefox 20, only the PPA is different.

    and , as you may notice, i have written what every command does, before coding it.
