Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, GNOME Shell 3.10 Beta 1 (Gnome Shell 3.9.90) has been released a while ago, bringing some Lock Screen improvements. For a full list of features, see the official changelog.

In this article I will show you how to install Gnome Shell 3.10 Beta 1 (Gnome Shell 3.9.90) on Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, Linux Mint 16 Petra and Linux Mint 15 Olivia.
Because it is available via PPA, installing Gnome Shell 3.10 Beta 1 (Gnome Shell 3.9.90) on the latest versions of Ubuntu and Linux Mint is easy. Follow the above instructions in order to get a successful installation:
Add the needed repositories:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ricotz/testing
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3-staging
Update the local repository index:
$ sudo apt-get update
Install Gnome Shell 3.10 Beta 1 (Gnome Shell 3.9.90):
$ sudo apt-get install gnome-shell
