Hello Linux Geeksters. Part of the Gnome 3.10 Desktop Environment, Gnome Shell 3.10 has been released. Among others, it comes with bugfixes and translations. See the release notes, for more information.
Worth mentioning, Gnome Shell 3.10 is being build in two separate binaries, one for X11 (libgnome-shell) and one for Wayland (libgnome-shell-wayland). Mutter, the default window manager of Gnome Shell will also use libmutter for X11 and libmutter-wayland.
In this article I will show you how to install Gnome Shell 3.10 on Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander.
Because it is available via the Gnome Staging PPA, installing Gnome Shell 3.10 on Ubuntu Saucy is easy. All you have to do is add the needed ppa, update the local repository index and install the gnome-shell, gnome-shell-extensions and mutter packages. Like this:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3-staging
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install gnome-shell
