How To Install Guvcview 1.7.3 On Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Pinguy OS, LXLE And Other Ubuntu Derivatives

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Guvcview is an open source application, developed in GTK+, which enables the users to record videos or take photos via the webcam, set up the video and audio codecs to be used, or set the audio input. The latest version available is Guvcview 1.7.3, which has been recently released.

In this article I will show you how to install Guvcview 1.7.3 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Linux Mint 16 Petra, Pinguy OS 14.04, LXLE 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Isis and other Ubuntu 14.04 and Ubuntu 13.10 derivative systems.

For Ubuntu 14.04, Linux Mint 17, Pinguy OS 14.04, LXLE 14.04 and Elementary OS 0.3, Guvcview 1.7.3 is available via some third party PPA, so installing it is easy. Just do:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/apps
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install guvcview

Optional, to remove guvcview, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove guvcview

To install Guvcview 1.7.3 on Ubuntu 13.10 and Linux Mint 16, we have to use another third party PPA:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pj-assis/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install guvcview

Optional, to remove guvcview, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove guvcview
