How To Install HexChat On Ubuntu 14.04, Linux Mint 17 And Their Derivative Systems

As you may know, HexChat is an IRC client,. It is based on XChat, but works on both Windows and Linux / Unix. The latest version available is HexChat, which brings some improvements to the previous version. Among others, it improves the IRCv3 support, extends the support for SASL, including AES encryption and BLOWFISH, gets a new option fr choosing the authentication methods, speed improvements and many others.

In this article I will show you how to install HexChat on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Pinguy OS 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Isis, LXLE 14.04 and other Ubuntu 14.04 derivative systems.

Because it is available via PPA, installing HexChat on Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Elementary OS is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to the system, update the local repository index and install the hexchat package. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/hexchat-stable
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install hexchat

Unity integration with Hexcat Indicator in Ubuntu 14.04:

$ sudo apt-get install –no-install-recommends bzr build-essential libmessaging-menu-dev gnome-common libgtk2.0-dev libunity-dev
$ bzr branch lp:hexchat-indicator
$ cd hexchat-indicator/
$ ./
$ ./configure
$ make
$ sudo make install
$ cp ./.libs/ ~/.config/hexchat/addons/
