Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Kdenlive is an open-source video editor, running on both Linux and FreeBSD and using FFmpeg, MLT video framework and Frei0r effects. It can be used for both basic video editing or semi-profesional work.
The latest version available is Kdenlive 0.9.8, which brings only bug-fixes to the previous release. Starting with the next release, Kdenlive will be ported from Qt4 to Qt5.
In this article I will show you how to install Kdenlive 0.9.8 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander and Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin.
Because it will be soon available via PPA, installing Kdenlive 0.9.8 on the listed Ubuntu systems is easy. All you have to do is add the PPA to your system, update the local repository index and install the kdenlive package. Like this:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:sunab/kdenlive-release
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install kdenlive
