Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Liferea (Linux Feed Reader) is a simple and lightweight news aggrecator with a GTK interface. Among other features, it can be synchronized with TinyTinyRSS or TheOldReader and has full support for Google Reader which reached EOL at the beginning of the month, it supports tabs and is capable of downloading feeds for online reading.
The latest version available is Liferea 1.10.15, which has been released a while ago, coming with the below changes and fixes:
- Fixes launching URLs in Firefox 36+
- Fixes Github #30: Segfault after updating from 1.8 to 1.10
- Improves Github #36, #113: UI lock up during refresh
- Fixes typo in Italian translation.
Recently, the PPA has received packages for Ubuntu Vivid.
In this article I will show you how to install Liferea 1.10.15 on Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet, Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Elementary OS 0.2 Luna, Deepin 2014, Peppermint Five, LXLE 14.04, Linux Lite 2 and other Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 12.04 and derivative systems.
Because it is available via PPAs, installing Liferea 1.10.15 is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the liferea package. Like this:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/apps
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install liferea
Optional, to remove liferea, do:
$ sudo apt-get remove liferea
