$ wget https://github.com/Aluxian/Facebook-Messenger-Desktop/releases/download/v1.2.2/Messenger_linux32.run
$ sudo chmod +x Messenger_linux32.run
$ sudo ./Messenger_linux32.run
$ sudo chown $USER:$USER /usr/share/MessengerForDesktop/
$ sudo chmod +x /usr/share/MessengerForDesktop/Messenger

To launch the app, do:

$ /usr/share/MessengerForDesktop/Messenger

How to install Messenger for Facebook 1.2.2 on 64 bit Linux systems:

$ wget https://github.com/Aluxian/Facebook-Messenger-Desktop/releases/download/v1.2.2/Messenger_linux64.run
$ sudo chmod +x Messenger_linux64.run
$ sudo ./Messenger_linux64.run
$ sudo chown $USER:$USER /usr/share/MessengerForDesktop/
$ sudo chmod +x /usr/share/MessengerForDesktop/Messenger

To launch the app, do:

$ /usr/share/MessengerForDesktop/Messenger
