How To Install MintUpdate 4.8.1 On Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 And Derivative Systems

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, MintUpdate is the default update tool of the Linux Mint system, having a modern graphical interface. It allows the users to update their system, displays the package’s changelog and description if available, hold some packages from being updated, among others.

The latest version available is MintUpdate 4.8.1, which has been released a while ago.

In this article I will show you how to install MintUpdate 4.8.1 on Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet, Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr and derivative systems: Deepin 2014, Peppermint Five, LXLE 14.04, Linux Lite 2, Pinguy OS 14.04 or Elementary OS 0.3 Freya.

Because it is available via PPA, installing MintUpdate 4.8.1 on Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 and derivative systems is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the mintupdate and synaptic package. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ferramroberto/lffl
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install mintupdate synaptic

Optional, to remove mintupdate, do:

$ sudo apt-get install mintupdate synaptic

    Great! I was looking for this since quite a while. I installed cinnamon desktop on a ubuntu installation. Unfortunately, this does not include the mint update, which is great, since it can be configured to notify you only about certain, considered to be stable, updates.
    Which is definitely needed, since I recently had some bad experience with some updates and I depend on a stable system.
