Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Mp3Splt is an open-source tool for splitting audio files, without decoding, having support for the most popular audio formats, including: MP3, OGG Vorbis and FLAC. The users specify the starting and ending time, for the audio piece you want to cut out. Also, the users can split albums, being able to select split points and set filenames manually, or get the automatically from the CDDB.
While Mp3Splt is a command-line tool, it also has a GTK+2 GUI, called Mp3splt-gtk, and a library, named Libmp3splt. The latest versions available are: Mp3Splt 2.6.1, LibMp3splt 0.9.1 and Mp3Splt-gtk 0.9.1.
In this article I will show you how to install Mp3splt-gtk 2.6.1 (and the required packages: mp3splt, libmp3splt) on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Pinguy OS 14.04, LXLE 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Peppermint Five, Deepin 2014, Linux Lite 2.0 and other Ubuntu 14.04 derivative systems.
Because it is available via PPA, installing Mp3Splt-gtk 2.6.1 (and the required packages: mp3splt, libmp3splt) on Ubuntu 14.04 and derivative systems is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the mp3splt mp3splt-gtk and libmp3splt0 packages. Like this:
$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:dominik-stadler/dsta-trusty-ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install mp3splt mp3splt-gtk libmp3splt0
Optional, to remove mp3splt mp3splt-gtk and libmp3splt0, do:
$ sudo apt-get remove mp3splt mp3splt-gtk libmp3splt0
