Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, MPV is a command-line video player forked from MPlayer 2, which is not developed anymore. MPV provides the functionality of the goold old MPlayer 2, but with greater VDPAU support, for Nvidia graphics cards. The latest version available is MPV 0.4.0, which has been released about two weeks ago.
In this article I will show you how to install MPV 0.4.0 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Pinguy OS 14.04, LXLE 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Peppermint Five and other Ubuntu 14.04 derivative systems.
Because it will soon be added to the MPV Stable PPA, installing mpv 0.4.0 on the listed Ubuntu 14.04 and derivative systems is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the mpv package. Like this:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:blinxwang/mpv-builds
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install mpv
Optional, to remove mpv, do:
$ sudo apt-get install mpv
