In this article I will show you how to install MPV on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, and Linux Mint 16.

Because it is available via PPA, installing MPV on the listed Ubuntu and Linux Mint systems is easy. All you have to do is install mplayer2 from the default repos, add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the mpv package. Like this:

$ sudo apt-get install mplayer2
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mc3man/mpv-tests
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install mpv
