Pantheon is a new lightweight, modular desktop environment, written in vala and GTK+, aiming the elementary OS project.

$ sudo apt-add-repository -y ppa:ricotz/docky

Secondly, we update the system:

$ sudo apt-get update

And third, we install all the needed packages:

$ sudo apt-get install -y pantheon-shell pantheon midori lingo wingpanel plank pantheon-terminal pantheon-xsession-settings contractor slingshot-launcher scratch marlin elementary-theme elementary-icon-theme ttf-droid footnote switchboard plank-theme-pantheon snap switchboard-gnome-control-center preload

  1. I’d do this but… is it any stable? does it break things?

    Hey, does this work on Ubuntu 13.10

    Installed this way: (But there are issues! Not working properly yet)

    add-apt-repository ppa:elementary-os/daily
    apt-get update
    apt-get install elementary-desktop

    Doesn’t look like it works properly on 13.10, at least with the half baked scenario I cooked up. I fired up 13.10 64 bit in a VM, did nothing to it, added the above PPAs and all of that and went to town. Of course, I ran into some errors with snap, lingo, and another package I believe, but since this was a VM and I was going for a vague y/n I just removed them from the list and installed the rest of the packages without them.

    Pantheon shows up on Ubuntu 13.10, but it’s not really usable. I cannot scroll to page through the applications in Slingshot and System Settings is half baked. Window borders are missing as well. Plank is visible and functions and the top panel takes the look as you’d suspect.

    Do I consider this usable on 13.10? No. Don’t bother trying it and hosing a system. If you want to test this further beyond my far-from-scientific-results, fire up 13.10 in Virtualbox and go to town. Just wanted to throw out a warning/FYI here so nobody tried it on a primary system only to be bummed that it tanked.

    It does work in Ubuntu 13.10 now.
    I have it installed but you have to also install elementary-tweaks from Elementary Update PPA and in cerbere tab you have to add gala, pantheon-wallpaper, slingshot-launcher –silent, wingpanel or wingpanel-slim.. whatever you use.
