Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, phpMyAdmin is an open-source tool for administrating MySQL, MariaBD and Dizzle databases, written in PHP. Among others, it enables the users to easily manage databases, tables, relations, indexes, users, columns, ect via the user interface. The latest version avalable is phpMyAdmin 4.2.2, which has been released a while ago.

In this article I will show you how to install phpMyAdmin 4.2.2 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Linux Mint 16 Petra, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Pinguy OS 14.04, Pinguy OS 12.04, LXLE 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Isis, Elementary OS 0.2 Luna and their derivative systems.
Because it is available via PPA, installing phpMyAdmin 4.2.2 on the listed Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Pinguy OS and Elementary OS systems is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the phpmyadmin package. Like this:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tuxpoldo/phpmyadmin
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin
Next, you have to choose the webserver (apache2 or lightppd) to be configured to run phpmyadmin. Choose which one you decide it’s best.
Next, you have to configure the phpMyAdmin database. Choose yes from the below dialog.
Next, enter the administrator’s password.
Next, enter the MySQL application password for phpMyAdmin.
Retype the chosen password again, to confirm it.
And that’s it. To launch phpMyAdmin, open your browser and type http://localhost/phpmyadmin as URL and login with the chosen username and password.
