How To Install ReText 5.0 On Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 And Derivative Systems

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, ReText is an open-source markdown editor for Linux systems. Among others, it has an integrated spellchecker, support for exporting files to HTML, ODT and PDF, tabs and live preview, a syntax highlighting feature, support for CSS styles and support for page breaks.

The latest version available is ReText 5.0, which has been released a while ago, coming with changes and fixes.

In this article I will show you how to install ReText 5.0 on Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet, Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Pinguy OS 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Deepin 2014, Peppermint Five, LXLE 14.04, Linux Lite 2 and other Ubuntu derivative systems.

For Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.10 and derivative systems, ReText 5.0 is available via the default repositories of Ubuntu, so installing it is easy. Just do:

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install retext

For Ubuntu 14.04 and derivative systems, we have to use a third party PPA in order to install ReText 5.0 on our system. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mitya57/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install retext

Optional, to remove retext from Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 or a derivative system, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove retext
