How To Install Shotwell 0.22.0 On Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 And Derivative Systems

The latest version available is Shotwell 0.22.0, which has been released yesterday, coming with the below changes:

  • Improved metadata support for Facebook upload
  • Saved search now properly supports text is-set, not-set
  • Import title, exposure time when available
  • User interface improvements
  • Sort photos by filename
  • Updated translations

Most likely, Shotwell 0.22.0 will be included in GNOME 3.16, which should be released tomorrow.

In this article I will show you how to install Shotwell 0.22.0 on Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet, Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Pinguy OS 14.04, LXLE 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Peppermint Five, Linux Lite 2, Deepin 2014 and other Ubuntu derivative systems.

Because it is available via PPA, installing  Shotwell 0.22.0 on Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 and derivatives is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the shotwell package. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yorba/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install shotwell

Optional, to remove shotwell, do:
