Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Skippy-XD is a window picker application than works over the X.org compositor, providing similar functionalities to the Mac OS Expose. It works with XFWM4, the window manager for XFCE, or other NetWM window manager, like: LXDE, Openbox-based WMs and others. The latest version available is Skippy-XD 0.5.1, which has been recently added to the PPA.
In this article I will show you how to install Skippy-XD 0.5.1 on Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 16 Petra, Linux Mint 15 Olivia, Linux Mint 14 Nadia and Linux Mint 13 Maya, all running with XFCE or other compatible WMs.
Because it is available via PPA, installing Skippy-XD 0.5.1 on Ubuntu and Linux Mint is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the skippy-xd package. Like this:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:landronimirc/skippy-xd-daily
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install skippy-xd
To start the daemon and activate the windows picker, do:
$ skippy-xd --start-daemon &
$ skippy-xd --activate-window-picker
