How To Install The AMD Catalyst 14.8 Drivers On Ubuntu 14.04 And Derivative Systems

In this article I will show you how to install AMD Catalyst 14.8 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Pinguy OS 14.04, LXLE 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Deepin 2014, LXLE 14.04, Linux Lite 2.0, Peppermint Five and other Ubuntu 14.04 derivative systems.

Follow the instructions exactly, in order to get a successful installation.

Download the latest AMD Catalyst 14.8  driver.

$ cd ~/Downloads
$ unzip 14.201.1005-140702a-174418c-aes.zip

Kill the display manager, which can either be: kdm for KDE, gdm for Gnome, lightdm for LXDE and XFCE, mdm (for Linux Mint):

$ sudo /etc/init.d/kdm stop
OR:
$ sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
OR:
$ sudo /etc/init.d/lightdm stop
OR:
$ sudo /etc/init.d/mdm stop

Run the installer:

$ sudo ./amd-driver-installer-14.201.1005-x86.x86_64
