The AmbianceX AX Theme, is a flat theme created by by John Baer changes the face of Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail.
It looks like there is a new trend for releasing flat themes. There are rumours that iOS 7 will also have a flat theme.
This is what the author said, on his blog:
“I’ve noticed a trend is afoot to flatten the appearance of themes. Chrome OS is a good example of this and it is rumored the new iOS 7 will be the same. Evidence of this is observable in Ubuntu as the file manager icons of the navigation tree are flat.
I used this as a design goal for this release and I am pleased to announce the availability of the AmbianceX (AX) theme for Ubuntu 13.04,”

To install AX Theme on Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, do:
$ wget -c www.j-baer.com/wp-content/uploads/AX-Install.tar.gz
$ tar -zxvf AX-Install.tar.gz
$ sudo sh InstallAX.sh
By default, the auto scroll is disable. To enable it do:
$ sudo sh EnableUbuntuScrollbars.sh
