In this article I will show you how to install Kernel 3.0.86 on Ubuntu and Debian derivates. These instructions are generical, they work for Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lyxn, Linux Mint 16 Petra, Linux Mint 15 Olivia, Linux Mint 14 Nadia, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Debian Jessie, Debian Sid, Debian Wheezy, Debian Squeeze, Knoppix 7.2.0, Knoppix 7.1.0, Deepin 12.12, Crunchbang OS and many others.

Because theĀ  needed packages are available as deb file, on kernel.ubuntu.com, installing the Linux Kernel 3.0.86 is easy.

Instructions for 32 bit Debian / Ubuntu / Linux Mint systems:

Download the needed packages of Kernel 3.0.86:

$ wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.0.86-oneiric/linux-headers-3.0.86-030086_3.0.86-030086.201307131435_all.deb
$ wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.0.86-oneiric/linux-headers-3.0.86-030086-generic_3.0.86-030086.201307131435_i386.deb
$ wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.0.86-oneiric/linux-image-3.0.86-030086-generic_3.0.86-030086.201307131435_i386.deb

Install the Linux Kernel 3.0.86 and update grub:

$ sudo dpkg -i *.deb
$ sudo update-grub
