In this article I will show you how to install Thunderbird 24.0.1 on Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 16 Petra, Linux Mint 15 Olivia, Linux Mint 14 Nadia, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Pear OS 8 and Elementary OS 0.2 Luna.

To avoid downloading it from the official site as tarball and extract it, we can use the UbuntuZilla repository, for installing Thunderbird 24 on Ubuntu and derivates, such as Linux Mint, Elementary OS, Pear OS. Follow these instructions exactly, in order to get a successful installation:

Add the repository to your system:

$ echo -e "\ndeb http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/ubuntuzilla/mozilla/apt all main" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list > /dev/null

Add the repository’s key:

$ sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com C1289A29

Update the local repository index:

$ sudo apt-get update

Install Thunderbird 24.0.1:

$ sudo apt-get install thunderbird-mozilla-build
