Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Thunderbird 24 has been released last week. It brings some features and improvements, including the ability to send emails to IDN email addresses, IRC improvements, better Twitter support and many others. For more information, see the changelog.

In this article I will show you how to install Thunderbird 24 on Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 16 Petra, Linux Mint 15 Olivia, Linux Mint 14 Nadia, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Elementary OS 0.2 Luna and Pear OS 8, via the UbuntuZilla Repository.
To avoid downloading it from the official site as tarball and extract it, we can use the UbuntuZilla repository, for installing Thunderbird 24 on Ubuntu and derivates, such as Linux Mint, Elementary OS, Pear OS. Follow these instructions exactly, in order to get a successful installation:
Add the repository to your system:
$ echo -e "\ndeb http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/ubuntuzilla/mozilla/apt all main" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list > /dev/null
Add the repository’s key:
$ sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com C1289A29
Update the local repository index:
$ sudo apt-get update
Install Thunderbird 24:
$ sudo apt-get install thunderbird-mozilla-build
