Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, TimeShift is a tool that allows the users to do system restores to a certain time. It is an open-source restore tool, similar to Microsoft’s System Restore and Apple’s Time Machine, based on rsync and hardlinks, that creates incremental snapshots for the file system. It can be used as LiveCD or as an application, for the Ubuntu and derivated systems. The latest version available is Timeshift 1.4.2.
In this article I will show you how to install TimeShift 1.4.2 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Linux Mint 16 Petra, Linux Mint 14 Nadia, Linux Mint 13 Maya and Elementary OS 0.2 Luna.
Because it is available via PPA, installing TimeShift 1.4.2 on Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Elementary OS is easy. All you have to do is add the PPA, update the local repository index and install the timeshift package. Like this:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:teejee2008/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install timeshift
Optional, to uninstall timeshift and downgrade all the packages that got upgraded via the PPA, do:
$ sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
$ sudu ppa-purge ppa:teejee2008/ppa
