How To Install Whisker Menu 1.4.3 On Xubuntu 15.04, Xubuntu 14.10, Xubuntu 14.04, Xubuntu 12.04, Linux Mint 17.1, Linux Mint 17 And Linux Mint 13 Using XFCE

Hello Linux Geeksters. Whisker Menu is an innovative alternative for the XFCE default menu, including a modern search bar and enabling users to easily access all the installed apps from the system, or access applications by categories. It also remembers the last 10 used applications.

The latest version available is Whisker 1.4.3, which has been recently released, bringing with bug-fixes:

  • Fix hang at launch by removing load thread
  • Fix not saving sorted favorites
  • Translation updates: French, Hungarian, Russian, Slovak

In this article I will show you how to install Whisker Menu 1.4.3 on Xubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet, Xubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Xubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Xubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin,  Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca XFCE, Linux Mint 17 Petra XFCE and Linux Mint 13 Maya XFCE.

Because it is available via PPA, installing Whisker Menu 1.4.3 on Xubuntu and Linux Mint XFCE systems is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and instal the whisker-menu-plugin package. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gottcode/gcppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin

Optional, to remove Whisker Menu, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin
