The latest installation instructions for Wine
Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Wine 1.7.7 has been recently released. Among others, it comes withsupport for configurationg remote shares using Samba’s NetApi library, support for arrays in VBScript, improved embedding support through XEMBED and fixes for over 49 bugs.
In this article I will show you how to install Wine 1.7.7 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 16 Petra, Linux Mint 15 Olivia, Linux Mint 14 Nadia, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Pear OS 8, Pear OS 7 and Elementary OS 0.2 Luna.
Because it will be soon available via PPA, installing Wine 1.7.7 on the listed Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Pear OS and Elementary OS systems is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the wine1.7 and winetricks packages. Like this:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install wine1.7 winetricks
My ubuntu couldn’t find the gpg key. How can I resolve this?
1st (and the easiest solution): you can add the key by hand: $ sudo apt-key adv –keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com –recv-keys F9CB8DB0
2nd (and the harder solution): try to remove the ppa and add it back again. it is either in /etc/apt/sources.list or /etc/apt/sources.list.d, under the wine directory.
WOrked for me..So easy too lol. Thank you. For the Linux noobies out there like me dont insert the $ just type or copy and paste (via right click) in terminal the “sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa” . It will ask you to read the agreement and then agree to it also in the terminal so pay attention to the progress. Thank you Geekster.
I think anyone should feel free to share their opinions but they have to accept that some will not agree. Those that don#182&7;t agree maybe a lot more vocal than the writer they disagree with.
I’m having the same problem installing another package and I realize there are other sources for the binary but what about the “held packages” message.
