Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, wxPackJPG is an open-source, multi-platform tool that uses the packJPGlib library, for compressing JPEG images by 20%.

It is very useful for backing up photographies, since it makes the compressed images 20% lighter. When done the reverse process, the photos are restored to bit-identical files. Among others, it has a multilanguage GUI, an abort button for canceling lengthy operations, enables the users to preview the images and compress them into a single file, similar to a zip archite.

In this article I will show you how to install wxPackJPG 1.1.0 on Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 15 Olivia, Linux Mint 14 Nadia, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Elementary OS 0.2 Luna and Pear OS 8.

Because it is available via PPA, installing wxPackJPG 1.1.0 on Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Elementary OS and Pear OS is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the wxpackjpg package. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dhor/myway
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install jxpackjpg
