Hello Linux Geeksters. For those who don’t know, XFCE is a lightweight, open-source desktop environment for Linux and Unix systems. It is based on GTK+2, but partial support for GTK+3 has been implemented.
The latest version available is XFCE 4.12.1, which brings only bug-fixes:
- Remove unused variable ‘tmp_text’
- Monitor the wallpaper file for changes
- Reinitialize background when reloading desktop
- Update rc file after completing delete process
- Add a xfconf settings to center the text on xfdesktop icons. This fixes some issues with RTL languages.
- Do not overwrite rc file while restoring icons
- Fix crash when moving 2+ icons to the bottom right corner
- Fix icon placement when using “Arrange Desktop
- Center icons vertically in the grid
- Set initial value of font size spin button
- Show sub directories in template menu again
- Prevent accidental double clicks in single click mode
- Disable rename menu entry for special icons
- Add icon emblems in clockwise order
- Handle icons with preset emblems
- Enable drag&drop popup menu for local actions
- Use mini icon and allow dimming of non-scaled icons
In this article I will show you how to install XFCE 4.12.1 on Fedora 21 and Fedora 20.
Because it is available via the Copr repository, installing XFCE 4.12.1 on Fedora 21 and Fedora 20 systems is easy. All you have to do is add the repository to your system, update the local repository index and install Xfce Desktop. Follow the instructions for your system exactly, in order to get a successful installation.
How to install XFCE 4.12.1 on Fedora 21 systems:
$ cd /etc/yum.repos.d/
$ sudo wget https://copr.fedoraproject.org/coprs/nonamedotc/xfce412/repo/fedora-21/nonamedotc-xfce412-fedora-21.repo
$ sudo yum groups install "Xfce Desktop"
How to install XFCE 4.12.1 on Fedora 20 systems:
$ cd /etc/yum.repos.d/
$ sudo wget https://copr.fedoraproject.org/coprs/nonamedotc/xfce412/repo/fedora-20/nonamedotc-xfce412-fedora-20.repo
$ sudo yum groups install "Xfce Desktop"
