MyPaint 1.2.0 Has Been Released

As you may know, MyPaint is an open-source graphics app, similar to the Paint software available by default on Windows systems.

Main features of MyPaint:

  • Designed for pressure sensitive graphics tablets
  • Simple and minimalistic user interface
  • Extensive brush creation and configuration options
  • Unlimited canvas (you never have to resize)
  • Basic layer support

The latest version available is MyPaint 1.2.0 Beta 4, but the changelog has not been updated yet.

Install MyPaint on Ubuntu

Installation instructions:

MyPaint is available via some third party PPA, so installing the software on Ubuntu 15.10 Wily Werewolf, Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr and derivative systems like Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa, Linux Mint 17.2 Rafaela, Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Pinguy OS 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Deepin 2014, Peppermint 6, Peppermint 5, LXLE 14.04 and Linux Lite 2 should not cause too many problems. You just need to add the PPA to your system, update the local repository index and install the mypaint package:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:achadwick/mypaint-testing
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install mypaint

Optional, to remove mypaint, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove mypaint
