Powertop is a tool used for managing the power consumption on laptops. In this article I will show you how to install powertop on Fedora 17.

PowerTOP finds out the programs that use a lot of power while the computer is idle. The biggest energy consumer is the kernel. But, from the 2.6.21 version, the kernel went tickless.
Step 1: Download the rpm package:
$ wget dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/updates/17/x86_64/powertop-2.1-2.fc17.x86_64.rpm
Step 2: Install the rpm package:
$ sudo rpm -i powertop*
