How To Install uText 0.3.9 (Open-Source Markdown Text Editor) On Ubuntu

As you may know, uText is an open-source markdown text editor having interesting features like live text preview, syntax highlighting support for exporting export files in the HTML, ODT, PDF formats.

Among others, it has Day, Night and fullscreen mode to provide a distraction free editor, has support for finding and replacing strings, a built-in spell checker and support for saving to dropbox.

The latest version available is uText 0.3.9, which has been recently released, bringing the below changes:

  • Added export to various formats

Installation instructions:

Up to date packages are available via some third party PPA, so installing the software on Ubuntu 15.10 Wily Werewolf, Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet and Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr and derivative systems like Linux Mint 17.x and Elementary OS 0.3 Freya is piece of cake. Add the PPA to your system, update the local repository index and install the utext package:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/utext
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install utext

Optional, to remove utext, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove utext
