How To Install Vuze 5.7 On The Most Popular Linux Systems

As you may know, Vuze (ex Azureus), is a BitTorrent client with the normal functions of such a program: multiple downloads, queuing,  prioritizing files, start, stop seeding options.

The latest version available is Vuze 5.7, coming with the below changes, new features and bug-fixes.

Installation instructions:

Vuze does not provide a repository for its BitTorrent client, but the installation steps are quite easy anyway and should not create difficulties on any Linux distribution.

The latest versions of Vuze are available as pre-compiled libraries via the project’s webiste, so we need to download the archiveextract  it and run the firefox file. Also, it is advised to remove previous versions of vuze, move vuze to /opt and create a symlink, for an easier usage.

The below instructions should work on all the popular Linux systems, including Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Pinguy OS, Elementary OS, Deepin, Peppermint, LXLE, Linux Lite, Debian, Robolinux, SparkyLinux, Fedora, CentOS, OpenSUSE, Mageia, OpenMandriva, Arch Linux, Manjaro, ROSA Desktop etc.

How to install Vuze on either 32 bit or 64 bit Linux systems:

$ wget http://cf1.vuze.com/files/VuzeInstaller.tar.bz2
$ tar -xjvf VuzeInstaller.tar.bz2
$ sudo rm -rf /opt/vuze*
$ sudo mv vuze /opt/vuze
$ sudo ln -sf /opt/vuze/vuze /usr/bin/vuze

Next, to launch vuze just open the terminal, type “vuze” and hit enter.

Optional, to remove vuze, do:

$ sudo rm -r /opt/vuze /usr/bin/vuze
