According to Canonical’s Kernel Team weekly newsletter Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Xenial Xerus has adopted Kernel 4.3.3, which is currently the most advances stable kernel released so far.
But Canonical is also tracking Kernel 4.4, Kernel 4.4 RC5 being added to the Unstable branch of Ubuntu 16.04, the goal being to use Kernel 4.4 stable on the final version of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.
Also worth mentioning, Canonical has announced that they will update Kernel 4.2.8 (which has reached EOL yesterday) until August 2016, because Ubuntu 15.10 Wily Werewolf, which uses Kernel 4.2.x by default will reach end of life in July 2016.
