Today’s big rumour is that the Fedora developers are thinking of switching Gnome 3 with Cinnamon on Fedora 19.
X3: Reunion, the awesome space simulater game will arive on Valve’s Steam for Linux.
Also, Strike Suite Zero, a space fighter simulation game where the players have to save the world could arrive on Steam for Linux.
What I am certain of is that the Original Counter-Strike will be a part of the Steam for Linux games soon, after his big brother “Half Life” was developed for Linux.
Minimum requirements needed for Steam on Linux: Ubuntu 12.04 or Ubuntu 12.10, 1 Ghz Pentium 4 or Athlon XP1500+, 512 MB of RAM and 5 GB of free space. As you may know, to play games on Steam you need an account which is not free.
How to install Steam? Just follow this steps:
$ wget repo.steampowered.com/steam/archive/precise/steam_220.127.116.11_i386.deb
$ sudo dpkg -i steam_18.104.22.168_i386.deb
If you get some dependeny issues, type this: sudo apt-get install -f
And, of course, you will need to update the graphics drivers: sudo apt-get install libgl1-mesa-glx:i386
For using Steam on Linux you nead to have Wine and Winetricks installed. This is how you install wine and winetricks (you can find more explenations here):
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install wine1.5 winetricks
Now lunch Winetricks: Application -> Wine -> Winetricks ->step1. Select “Install an app“. -> step2. Select “steam” -> step3. Login an existing account or Create a new account and Log in with it -> step4. Choose Activate a Product on Steam and insert the key -> step5. Follow the instructions displayed to finish the installation.
