News | New Package Manager For Fedora: DNF

Fedora is developing a new package manager, called DNF. It has been integrated into Fedora 18, but it is still experimental. DNF is a fork of yum, using libsolv.

The Fedora team is struggling to bring dnf in line with what yum already supports. They still work on implementing this features:

  • Delta RPM
  • history undo
  • parallel downloads
  • auto-remove
  • bash completion

Rahul Sundaman, one of the developers said that they want to replace yum with DNF, when it will be ready. The commands will be the same or compatible with yum, or, in the works case scenario, they can be aliased to work like the old yum. They hope that DNF will be the future of Fedora package management.
