Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know Nginx (engine x) a popular web server and reverse proxy application, provinding lightweightness, safety and good performance, used mostly for creating IMAP/POP3 proxies.
Recently, Jorge Castro, one of the Ubuntu developers have announced that Nginx will be removed from the Universe repository and added to the default repos of Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr.
The latest version of Nginx is Nginx 1.4.4, which is available via the Nginx stable PPA. In this article I will show you how to install Nginx 1.4.4 on Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 16 Petra, Linux Mint 15 Olivia, Linux Mint 14 Nadia, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Pear OS 8, Pear OS 7 and Elementary OS 0.2 Luna.
Follow the instructions exactly, in order to get a successful installation.
First, we have to install MySQL, from the default repositories:
$ sudo apt-get install mysql-server mysql-client
Secondly, we have to add the Nginx PPA, update the local repository index and install the nginx package. Like this:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nginx/stable
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install nginx
And last, start the Nginx service, like this:
$ sudo /etc/init.d/nginx start
To test if Nginx has been successfully installed, type in your browser http://localhost and hit enter. (via lffl.org)
