Hello Linux Geeksters. Two days ago, Skolelinux 7.1 (also known as Debian Edu 7.1+edu0 ‘Wheezy’) has been released. Skolelinux 7.1 is the sixth Skolelinux released, based on Debian 7.1 Wheezy.
Debian Edu is a Linux system for schools, enabling the users to install servers, workstations and laptops to work together on the school networks. After the installion finishes, a school server with all the needed serveces enabled is set up. New users can be created via GOsa, a web interface app.
After the main server is turned on, it allows others to install it, via the network. As default, it comes with LDAP database, Kerberos authentication service, centralize home directories, DHCP server and many others.
Debian Edu is available with KDE 4.8.4, GNOME 3.4, LXDE 0.5.5 and Xfce 4.8.6, uses Kernel 3.2.x, has Iceweasel 17 EST, LibreOffice 3.5.4, CUPS 1.5.3, Gimp 2.8.2, Rosegarden 12.04, Celestia 1.6.1, Stellarium 0.11.3 and has many educational apps already installed.
