Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, the development of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr has started a while ago, the first daily builds of Ubuntu Trusty being already available for download.
For now, Ubuntu 14.04 is running on Kernel 3.12 RC 6, which is the newest Kernel available. We also know that it uses Mir and Unity 7, for now. Unity 8, which has been recently demoed on the Darter UltraThin laptop created by System76 is currently used only on Ubuntu Touch. (Thank you Eduard Gotwig for notifying my mistake)
Canonical’s big plan is to reach full desktop-mobile convergence with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr and the next version of Ubuntu Touch, which will be based on Ubuntu Trusty.
For those who don’t know yet, the scheduled dates for the Alpha and Beta versions of Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr are the following:
- December 19th, 2013 – Alpha 1 release
- January 23th, 2014 – Alpha 2 release
- February 27th, 2014 – Beta 1 release
- March 27th, 2014 – Final Beta release
- April 17th, 2014 – Final release of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Are you sure that Ubuntu 14.04 includes Unity 8, the new start for Unity Next?
