Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, the Debian technical committee has been discussing for a few months now, on whether to replace the existing SysVinit event manager of Debian 8.0 Jessie with either Red Hat’s systemd or Canonical’s Upstart.

Since there were people supporting both systemd and Upstart, the developers started a vote. Yesterday, the latest voting round took place, but a final decission has not been take yet, due to the fact that many developers have voted FD, which means Further Discussion. So, no init system manager has been chosen yet.
Also worth mentioning, Spotify, a popular internet music service running on Debian servers is in favor of systemd over upstart, due to the fact that Red Hat’s init system has a bigger community and is easier to understand.
But since Debian 8.0 Jessie will be released in 2015, the developers have enough time to make up their mind.
