Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx Reaches EOL On April, Upgrade To Ubuntu 12.04 Or Ubuntu 14.04 Now!

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx has reached end of life (EOL) on the desktop, but the server edition of Ubuntu 10.04 is still supported, until April 30, 2015. After a system reaches EOL, the users do not receive any updates for it, and so, it is advised that such systems upgrade to a newer version.

Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx Reaches EOL On April, Upgrade To Ubuntu 12.04 Or Ubuntu 14.04 Now!

The newer supported LTS versions of  Ubuntu are Ubuntu 12.04, supported until April 2017 and Ubuntu 14.04, supported till April 2019.

To upgrade your system, you can use the update-manager-core tool, but you need to upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04 first and next, from Ubuntu 12.04 to Ubuntu 14.04.

Upgrade Ubuntu 10.04 to Ubuntu 12.04:

$ sudo apt-get install update-manager-core
$ sudo sed -i 's/Prompt=normal/Prompt=lts/g' /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades
$ sudo do-release-upgrade

Next, follow the on-screen upgrade instructions.

Upgrade Ubuntu 12.04 to Ubuntu 14.04:

$ sudo apt-get install update-manager-core
$ sudo sed -i 's/Prompt=normal/Prompt=lts/g' /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades
$ sudo do-release-upgrade

Next, follow the on-screen upgrade instructions.
