Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander Has Been Officially Released

Despite the fact that it did not come with Mir as a replacement for the good old X.org Server, Ubuntu 13.10 comes with new things anyway. Among others, worth reminding are the following: Kernel 3.11, Unity 7.12, Unity Smart Scopes, an option for configuring Ubuntu One directly from the installation wizzard, and Firefox. There were some discussions about replacing Firefox with Chromium as the default internet browser, but this change did not happen afterall.

The Unity Smart Scopes transform the Dash into a search area, acting itself like a search engine, capable of searching on both the local computer and online websites. Also, Canonical has anonimized the output before serving it to the Dash, from privacy reasons.

Today, also Kubuntu 13.10, Lubuntu 13.10, Xubuntu 13.10 have been officially released.
