Ubuntu 14.04 Beta 1 Has Been Released In All The Traditional Flavors

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, the first beta version of Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, has been released a few days ago, in all the main flavors: Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 Beta 1, Kubuntu 14.04 Beta 1, Xubuntu 14.04 beta 1, Lubuntu 14.04 beta 1, Edubuntu 14.04 beta 1, Ubuntu Kylin 14.04 beta 1, Ubuntu Cloud 14.04 beta 1 and Ubuntu Studio 14.04 beta 1.

Ubuntu 14.04 Beta 1 Has Been Released In All The Traditional Flavors

Unlike the alpha version, this release does not contain a large number of changes, but only a few new features.

Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 Trusty Tahr Beta 1 comes with Gnome 3.10, ALSA 1.0.25,Brasero 3.10 Cups 1.7.1 Evolution 3.10 Firefox 25.0, GCC 4.8.2, GRUB 2.02 Libreoffice 4.2.0, Linux 3.13.0, Mesa 10.1, Rhythmbox 3.0.1, Shotwell 0.17.1, Simple Scan 3.11.5, 2.17.8 Transmission 2.82 and Ubiquity, among others. While Gnome Shell is the default desktop environment, the users can also use the classic GNOME session (Gnome Fallback). Also, the default repositories of Ubuntu 14.04 got a bunch of new apps like Gnome Weather, Maps Gnome, Gnome Photos and Gnome Music.

Kubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr Beta 1 comes with KDE 4.12. RC as the default desktop environment, Firefox 27 as the default internet browser, Muon 2.2 Alpha 1, which is Kubuntu’s software store, and updated versions of some apps like: Kmail, Drive Manager, Gwenview or KDE Instant Messaging.

Xubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr Beta 1 uses XFCE 4.11 which has support for setting different wallpapers on each workspace, got Light Locker replacing xscreensaver, MenuLibre 2.0.1 instead of Alacarte, the new community wallpapers, the XFCE panel got support for GTK3 indicators, Whiskermenu has been used as default, comes with some updated packages, like: gmusicbrowser 1.11.1, Catfish 1.0.0, Parole 0.6 and Xfwm4 4.11.

Lubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr Beta 1 comes with a lot of bug-fixes and only a few new features. Among others, it comes with an enhanced LightDM display manager which got support for avatars and keyboard shortcuts, PCManFM, the default file manager has been updated to version 1.2.0, Mesa 10.1 has been made available by default, the default theme has received some improvements and a better GTK+3 integration and a new background has been added.

As a reminder, the second beta version will be released on the 27th of March, the RC version is scheduled for the 10th of April, while the stable version will come on the 17th of April.
