Valve Officially Announces Their Own Linux Based Gaming Console Called “The Steam Machine”

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may remember, Valve has announced their Debian/Ubuntu based gaming Linux system, called SteamOS a few days ago. Today, they have announced the Steam Machine, a gaming console running on SteamOS.

For now, there isn’t many information about SteamOS and the Steam Machine. All we know is that 300 beta units will be sent for free to some lucky gamers, in order to do some testing and collect feedback. More information about how to get in Valve’s trial can be found here.

More details about the hardware specs of the Steam Machine, price and performance will be announced soon.

This is not a big surprise, since Valve is a big and important contributor in the Linux gaming development.
