Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Valve has announced that they will release their own gaming console called SteamBox (or the Steam Machine), running SteamOS, a new Linux system created by them. For now, we only know the possible hardware specifications of the Steam Machine and how the Steam Controller would look like.

Despite the fact that the first 300 Steam Machine prototypes will use Intel CPUs and Nvidia GPUs, Valve has announced that they will also release Steam Machines with Intel processors and ATI Radeon graphics, in 2014.
We will see if the Steam Machines using AMD graphics will ship with AMD Catalyst and Radeon Gallium 3D drivers installed by default. AMD Catalyst is still a little buggy, but the developers aim to fix this until 2014.
As a reminder, both Sony and Microsoft have announced that they will keep an eye on Valve’s new gaming project. To my mind, the Steam Machines has the potential of becomming a strong competitor to both PlayStation and Xbox.
