Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr will be supported for the next 5 years, receiving both security and maintenance update patches, due to the fact that it will be a LTS (long term supported) release.
For now, we don’t know for sure if all the official Ubuntu flavors will be also supported for 5 years. There isn’t any official information on this. If we look back at Ubuntu 12.04, only Kubuntu 12.04 and Edubuntu 12.04 have 5 years support, while Xubuntu 12.04, Ubuntu Gnome 12.04 and Mythbuntu 12.04 have support only for 3 years.
The stable version of Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr and the official flavors will be released on the 17th of April, 2014.
For those who don’t know, Canonical has been working hard at Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr lately. Among others changes and enhancements, Unity 7 got locally integrated menus, some bugs occurred during the upgrade to Ubuntu 14.04 process have been fixed, they have improved Unity 7, added support for window filtering via the Unity spread, replaced the Gnome Control Center with Unity Control Center, and began testing Kernel 3.14 on Ubuntu 14.04.
